On 4/12/17, WRIR 97.3 invited Chispa as one of several programs to be on a “live on the radio” event on the Local Voices Live program. Lyedi and Paloma told the audience about the corridos (ballads) they wrote about a family member and life in Guatemala and Mexico in contrast to the United States.
Paloma, Lyedi, and Daynee came here as children as involuntary immigrants. They wanted the audience to know that as children they don’t often choose to come to another country.
Lyedi’s mom, Herminia spoke about the heartbreak of having to leave your children to work in another country in order to pull them out of poverty. Daynee, our producer, joined the conversation to speak about similar experiences when her mother had to leave her to work in the United States.
